April 09, New Delhi – Iran has announced alternative shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, warning vessels about potential risks from sea mines in the main transit lane, even as it prepares to partially reopen the strategic waterway.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Navy (IRGC) released a map showing alternative entry and exit routes to help ships avoid naval mines. In a statement, the IRGC advised all vessels crossing the strait to follow these designated routes "to comply with maritime safety principles" and prevent possible collisions with sea mines.
This development follows Tehran's agreement to temporarily reopen the strait under a two-week ceasefire with the United States, reached just before the US President Donald Trump's deadline for Iran to accept terms aimed at restoring shipping through the passage.
