New Delhi, March 23 Sikkim Krantikari Morcha MP Indra Hang Subba on Monday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming India's longest-serving head of government, having served for 8,931 continuous days since 2001.

He said this was due to the steps taken by the prime minister to empower people economically, providing dignity and rights to women, among others.

During Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Subba also highlighted Prime Minister Modi's vision for the all-round development of the Northeast region.

Subba stated that Modi has surpassed the record of former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling to become India's longest-serving head of government.

Subba said that during his nearly 12 years in government at the Centre, Modi has brought about transformative infrastructure like the Pakyong Airport in Sikkim, which is the first in the hill state, and has constructed 81,000 km of rural roads under PMGSY, as well as bringing 25 crore people out of poverty through various initiatives.

Subba also credited the prime minister with opening 55 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts, constructing three crore PMAY homes, 43 crore Ayushman cards, providing tap water to people under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and providing 57 crore collateral-free MUDRA loans.

He said that the prime minister has empowered women by enacting the law reserving 33 per cent of seats in the Lok Sabha and assemblies, building 12 crore Swachh Bharat toilets, and distributing 10 crore free LPG connections under the PM Ujjwala Yojana.

Bold moves like revoking Article 370, surgical strikes, construction of the Ram Mandir, self-reliance in defence and technology, are helping achieve the prime minister's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he said.
