Gangtok, March 16 Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang congratulated Prakash Bhattarai on Monday for being selected for the Sahitya Akademi award for 2025.

The Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 Indian languages recognized by it on Monday. Prakash Bhattarai has been selected for "Nepali Paramparik Sanskriti Ra Sabhyata Ko Dukuti" in Nepali.

In a social media post, the chief minister said that he was very happy and proud to hear the good news that Prakash Bhattarai will be awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award by the Government of India for his excellent essay 'Nepali Paramparik, Khojmulak Sanskriti Ra Sabhyako Dhikuti', which presents a vivid glimpse of Nepali traditional culture and civilization.

"I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to him for this important and remarkable achievement," he stated.

The CM said that Sharma's contribution to the preservation, promotion and development of Nepali language, literature and culture has been highly commendable, significant and inspiring. "This success of his has become a matter of pride and inspiration for the entire Nepali-speaking community and all well-wishers," said Tamang.

Bhattarai is the vice chairman of the Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS). He is a resident of Timburbong, Soreng.
