Sikkim Police Recover Body of 14-Year-Old.webp

Gangtok, March 10 The body of a 14-year-old boy, who had been reported missing, was recovered from a pond in the Gangtok district of Sikkim, police said on Tuesday.

The boy's family had filed a complaint at the Singtam Police Station on Monday evening, stating that the boy had been missing since the morning, a senior officer said.

Following the complaint, the police launched a search operation in and around the Shantinagar locality and the Rani Khola river belt, he said.

During the search, a pair of slippers were found near a pond adjacent to the river.

"A team comprising divers was involved in the search operation. The boy was found in the pond at a depth of approximately 10 feet and was taken to the Singtam District Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead," the officer said.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death at the Singtam Police Station, and the necessary formalities have been completed to hand over the body to the family of the deceased, he said.

An investigation is underway, the officer added.
