
Kolkata, March 15 Days after the Union Home Ministry sent a letter seeking the central deputation of Siliguri Police Commissioner C Sudhakar following the controversy over President Droupadi Murmu's recent visit to North Bengal, the West Bengal government has transferred the IPS officer and posted him as IGP, Intelligence Branch, an official said on Sunday.
The state government notification transferring Sudhakar as IGP, Intelligence Branch (North Bengal), was issued on March 14 as part of a reshuffle of IPS and WBPS officers, the official said.
Sudhakar, who was serving as Commissioner of Police of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate in the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP), will now take charge as IGP, Intelligence Branch (North Bengal) with effect from the date of assuming office, the notification said.
Syed Waquar Raza, who was posted as DIG of Jalpaiguri Range, has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate in the rank of DIG, it said.
A controversy had erupted during Murmu's visit to Siliguri on March 7 to attend the ninth International Santhal Conference near Bagdogra in Darjeeling district.
A fierce political confrontation broke out in West Bengal after Murmu pointed out the lack of development among tribal communities in North Bengal, drawing a sharp retort from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the TMC of disrespecting the President.
The President had also expressed dissatisfaction over the last-minute change of the programme venue.
The notification said Bholanath Pandey, who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of the South East Division of Kolkata Police in the rank of Joint CP, has been transferred as DIG, Jalpaiguri Range.
Surya Pratap Yadav, Commanding Officer of the RAF Battalion in Durgapur, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner, South East Division of Kolkata Police.
Meanwhile, Santi Das, WBPS, who was Additional SP at the West Bengal Human Rights Commission and on deputation as ADC to the Governor of West Bengal, has been appointed as Deputy Commanding Officer of SAP 2nd Battalion.
The notification said the appointments would take effect from the date the officers assume charge.
