Silvassa Warehouse Blast: Investigation Launched.webp

Silvassa, April 4 At least four people were killed and two were injured after a powerful explosion occurred inside a warehouse in Silvassa, in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, on Saturday morning, officials said.

The explosion occurred around 9 am at M/s S K Enterprise while gas, suspected to be nitrogen, was being refilled, they said.

"A total of six people were injured… four of them tragically succumbed to their injuries, while the other two are receiving treatment at Namo Hospital, Silvassa," an official statement from the Union Territory administration said.

According to the preliminary report from the Forensic Science Laboratory, it appeared to be a "pressure blast" caused by the rupture of a stainless-steel tank, suspected to contain nitrogen, the statement said.

Teams from the Fire and Emergency Services, Police, and 108 ambulance services were rushed to the scene, it said.

As a precautionary measure, nearby residents were evacuated to safer locations.

Authorities said that the situation was now under control. An inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the incident, and the district administration has also set up an inspection committee to conduct comprehensive checks of industrial units dealing with hazardous chemicals and gases, especially those operating without the required permissions, the statement said.
