
New Delhi, April 1 The Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court informed the Supreme Court on Wednesday that approximately 4.7 million out of the 6 million objections in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal have been addressed by March 31.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi said they had received a letter from the Chief Justice of the High Court on Tuesday.
"We are quite pleased and very optimistic about the figures," the CJI stated.
The CJI further stated that the High Court Chief Justice has informed that around 1.75 lakh to 2 lakh objections are being addressed every day.
The Supreme Court also stated that the High Court Chief Justice has informed that all objections will be decided by April 7.
The hearing in the matter is ongoing.
The Supreme Court is hearing a batch of pleas relating to the ongoing SIR in West Bengal.
