Bhadohi (UP), March 28 The body of a six-year-old boy, who had gone missing five days ago, was found under suspicious circumstances in a well filled with water here, police said on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Raja Babu, a resident of Rajapur village under the Aurai police station limits, had gone missing on March 24 while playing outside his house.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shubham Agrawal said the child disappeared around 1 pm that day, prompting a search operation by police and a dog squad team, which continued for two days but yielded no results.
According to police, the boy was the only child of his mother, Roshni Begum. His father, Neg Mohammad, who had remarried, is deceased. Following the incident, the boy's maternal uncle, Mubarak, lodged a missing persons complaint.
Agrawal said a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against unknown persons on March 25, and efforts were underway to trace the child.
On Saturday, locals noticed a foul smell emanating from a well filled with water, located about five metres from the boy's house in a field. Upon checking, they found the body floating in the well and informed the police.
"The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and a detailed investigation is underway," the officer said.
