Skills Development Conclave Focuses on Mizo Youth Potential

Aizawl, March 25, 2026: The Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), graced the inaugural programme of the "One Day Skills Development Conclave" at the ICFAI University Mizoram campus in Durtlang North, Aizawl, as the Chief Guest. Professor Y. R. Haragopal Reddy, Chancellor of ICFAI University Mizoram, attended the event as the Guest of Honour. The conclave was jointly organized by ICFAI University Mizoram and the Department of Labour, Employment, Skills Development & Entrepreneurship.

In his inaugural address, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh praised the talented and hardworking nature of Mizo youth. He emphasized that, in addition to their inherent abilities, they must acquire the right skills, greater exposure, and confidence to compete not only at the national level but also on the global stage. While urging them to seize opportunities across India and the world, he advised the youth to remain firmly rooted in the rich values and cultural heritage of Mizoram, noting that this foundation would propel them to even greater heights of success. Highlighting Mizoram’s abundant natural beauty, vibrant culture, and peaceful social environment, the Governor pointed out the immense potential for the state to excel in the service sector - currently the fastest-growing sector in the economy. He stressed that skill development must go hand in hand with innovation and entrepreneurship, and expressed hope that the conclave would prove highly beneficial for the youth. He added that the event should not end merely as a platform for discussion, but evolve into a dynamic movement that inspires and transforms young people, converting their skills into real opportunities and guiding them towards success in life.

The Governor described the youth as a priceless asset to both the state and the nation, and encouraged them not to limit their ambitions to Mizoram alone. Instead, they should aim for excellence across India and the world. He underscored the urgent need to create the right direction and ecosystem for skill development and entrepreneurship, declaring that “skills are the true currency of success in the modern era.” Noting that India leads the world with the highest number of startups launched daily, he called upon the youth to focus on practical knowledge, adaptability, and continuous learning - qualities that are in high demand in today’s job market. Since the government alone cannot provide employment for everyone, he urged greater emphasis on the private sector and entrepreneurship. He encouraged young people to aspire not just to be job seekers, but to become job creators. The Governor further stressed the importance of integrating practical skills with academic learning, forging stronger linkages between educational institutions, industries, and markets, nurturing entrepreneurial thinking among the youth, and promoting close collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve meaningful success in skill development initiatives.

Prof. (Dr) Ginlianlal Buhril, Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University Mizoram, delivered the welcome address. Insightful speeches were also given by Prof. YR Haragopal Reddy, Chancellor, and Pu John Tanpuia, Director of the LESDE Department. Dr. David Lawmzuala, Registrar of ICFAI University Mizoram, proposed the vote of thanks and formally concluded the inaugural session.

Following the inauguration, three distinguished resource persons shared their expertise: Major Dr. Gulshan Sharma, Director General of Medical Wellness & Spiritual Tourism and Strategic Consultant for MSMEs in the Service Industry, Gujarat; Shri Pinaki Roychoudhury, Social Entrepreneur and Group CEO from Kolkata and Shri K. Yatish Rajawat, CEO of the Center for Innovation in Public Policy and Founding Partner of the Hundred Million Jobs Foundation.
