March 4, Kohima: Nagaland's Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, Supongmeren Jamir, addressed the first meeting of the District Electricity Committee for the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in Kohima yesterday. He urged the department to emphasize the benefits of switching from traditional meters to smart meters.

Mr. Jamir, who is also the chairperson of the committee, called for detailed assessments of unelectrified and partially electrified areas in the district, and emphasized the need for transparency and collaborative efforts to address challenges in power distribution.

Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, also highlighted the benefits of smart metering and rooftop solar for improving efficiency.

Presenting an overview of RDSS, Additional Chief Engineer, Power Department, Lobosang Jamir, noted that smart metering is being implemented to reduce losses faced by the state.

He informed that only 37,081 smart meters have been installed out of the total target of 3,23,878.

The department has also launched a 'Smart Meter Pakhwada' campaign to raise consumer awareness across Nagaland.
