Chiba (Japan), April 5 India's Karandeep Kochhar achieved a remarkable late hat-trick of birdies in the thrilling fourth round of the International Series Japan, finishing fifth here on Sunday.
Australia's Travis Smyth won the title with a birdie on the final hole at the Caledonian Golf Club.
Kochhar remained bogey-free on the final day after a challenging third round, and he scored birdies on the 4th, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes to complete the tournament with a score of 12-under par 272, three shots behind the winner, Smyth.
Meanwhile, Smyth continued his impressive run when he made a birdie on the par-five 18th to win the tournament by a single stroke.
In a dramatic finish, he sank a 20-foot putt to narrowly avoid a play-off with Thailand's Pavit Tangkamolprasert and Ryosuke Kinoshita from Japan.
Smyth's brilliant final putt saw him score a seven-under par 64, putting him at 15-under, with Pavit and Kinoshita both close behind at 14-under.
This was also his second victory on the Asian Tour.
The Asian Tour is now heading to the Singapore Open.
