
Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), April 2 The Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway has recorded its highest-ever gross revenue of ₹5,907.20 crore, along with a record freight loading of over 40.6 MT, during the financial year 2023-24.
Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mohit Sonakiya noted that passenger revenue stood at ₹1,523.90 crore, registering a growth of 9.9 per cent, while the Division transported over 74.1 million passengers.
"The Vijayawada Division achieved its highest-ever gross revenue of ₹5,907.20 crore and freight loading of 40.631 million tonne in FY24," Sonakiya said in an official release.
According to the DRM, freight earnings reached ₹4,166 crore despite concessional benefits extended to the power sector, while ticket checking earnings touched a record over ₹76.3 crore.
He said that the Division achieved its best punctuality of 86.7 per cent and undertook key infrastructure works, including the commissioning of automatic block signalling and third line sections.
Sonakiya said that passenger amenities were enhanced through station development, the installation of lifts and escalators, and the elimination of level crossings to improve safety.
He further added that the Division operated over 5,200 special trains during peak seasons and extended the Vijayawada-Chennai Vande Bharat Express service to Narasapur.
