March 21, New Delhi — A major fire broke out at a car parts factory in Daejeon, central South Korea, on Friday. The blaze has resulted in over 10 deaths. The fire has also injured 59 people, with 25 in critical condition.
Approximately 170 workers were present at the time of the incident. Rescuers have recovered bodies mainly from the upper floors, amid concerns about structural collapse, and also recovered 200 kg of sodium, which posed an explosion hazard.
Large plumes of smoke filled the sky as over 240 firefighters battled the fire. South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has ordered the full mobilization of resources for rescue efforts. However, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
