Southwest Delhi: Child Victim of Sexual Assault, Accused Held.webp

New Delhi, March 17 A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl from his neighborhood in southwest Delhi's Chhawla area, police said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light after the minor narrated the alleged events to her mother, who subsequently approached the authorities.

According to the complainant, the girl, who lives with her family in the Chhawla area, was playing near a school along with her younger sister when a man – who was known to the family and ran a shop nearby – took her to his premises and sexually assaulted her.

Police said the accused also threatened the child, and preliminary inquiries suggest that similar incidents may have taken place earlier as well.

The child later informed her mother about the incident, who then shared the matter with a relative. Subsequently, the police were informed and a case was registered, a senior police officer said.

An FIR has been lodged under sections 65(2) (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police arrested the accused, who is a resident of the same locality and known to the girl's family, the officer said.

The child has been provided necessary medical assistance and support, and her statement is being recorded as per legal procedures, he added.
