Speaker Disputes Rama Rao's Comments on Disqualification Verdict.webp

Hyderabad, March 17 Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Tuesday expressed his disapproval of comments made by BRS Working President K T Rama Rao regarding his decision in the disqualification petitions against MLAs from the opposition party.

Rama Rao, who spoke in the assembly during the motion of thanks to the Governor's address, expressed disappointment over the Speaker recently dismissing the disqualification petitions filed by the BRS against party MLA Danam Nagender, who had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket.

However, Rama Rao did not name Nagender.

The Speaker said that Rama Rao should respond after reading his judgment.

"In the judicial system, we go to a court. The judge delivers a judgment. If not that court, (an appeal can be made to) another court. Without reading the judgment, (you) made many allegations. But, I did not make any statements in the media regarding this matter. I will respond if you speak after reading the judgment. It would be better if you refrain from raising such questions," he said.

Expressing his respect for the Speaker, Rama Rao said he had the right as an MLA to question the Speaker's decision.

State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy alleged, without mentioning Rama Rao's name, that the remarks against the Speaker show his arrogance.

Though Rama Rao has been making various allegations against the Congress government during the last two years, the BRS lost elections in a row, including the recent Gram Panchayat elections, he said.

Why was Rama Rao not talking about the defection of MLAs from other parties to the BRS when the regional party was in power during 2014 to December, 2023, Srinivasa Reddy asked.

The Speaker on March 11 dismissed petitions seeking the disqualification of two BRS MLAs for allegedly switching over to the ruling Congress, bringing an end to the issue involving a total of 10 legislators from the opposition party.
