In the Nagri block, near the Kathua district headquarters, new sports infrastructure has been developed to promote sports in rural areas and encourage youth participation.

Badminton and volleyball courts have been constructed in the panchayats of Muthi Jagir and Khaniara at a cost of approximately ₹24 lakh under the District UT Capex Budget (2025-26). The facilities include synthetic badminton courts and volleyball courts, along with fencing around the grounds for the safety of players.

Previously, local youth lacked adequate sports facilities, making regular practice and competitions difficult. With the new infrastructure, young players will now have better opportunities to train and showcase their talent within their villages.

Block Development Officer of Nagri, Pradeep Kumar, stated that the initiative aims to promote sports culture in rural areas and encourage youth towards positive activities. Local residents and youth have appreciated the move, expressing hope that the grounds will also host sports competitions and help keep young people away from social evils.
