March 25, New Delhi – Sri Lanka has ordered the shutdown of street lights, neon signs, and billboard lighting as part of efforts to reduce energy consumption by 25 percent and address supply shortages.

Government spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa said that all state institutions have been directed to limit the use of air conditioning.

The country has already increased fuel prices by one-third, and last week, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake urged electric vehicle owners to avoid charging their vehicles overnight.
