Bengaluru, April 7 The Karnataka High Court has ordered a re-verification of the 279 postal ballots that were rejected in the Sringeri Assembly constituency during the 2023 election.
The court has also stated that the Returning Officer (RO) will need to recount the postal ballots and announce the results, depending on the outcome of the re-verification.
Justice R Nataraj passed this order on Monday, after hearing the election petition filed by BJP's defeated candidate D N Jeevaraj, who challenged the election of Congress's T D Rajegowda, who won by 201 votes.
However, the court has granted a two-week stay on this order, at the request of Rajegowda's lawyer, to allow him to challenge it before the Supreme Court.
