The state government in Himachal Pradesh is developing the relatively untouched tourist destinations in the Kullu district as part of its eco-tourism initiative. The Kullu Circle of the Forest Department has identified over 16 eco-tourism sites for this purpose. Five of these sites have been allocated through an open bidding process. These sites are being provided with tourist facilities on a hectare of forest land.
Sites such as Kasol, Solang Nulla, Kasaul, Sumaropa, and Kheerganga-Bindravani in the Kullu district are generating approximately Rs. 1.5 crore annually for the Forest Department. In addition, nine more eco-tourism sites have been identified.
The state government is developing these eco-tourism sites to strengthen the rural economy. This initiative will create employment opportunities for local youth. The bidding process for the eco-tourism sites will last for 10 years, with the option to extend it for a maximum of five years.
