Pune, March 25 A 23-year-old student died in a hospital in Pune, several days after he suffered a severe electric shock while trying to draw water from a cooler at the College of Agriculture here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on March 14, and the student – Chaitanya Kundalik Chavan – died during treatment at a private hospital on Tuesday afternoon, they said.

Chavan, who was from Ashti in the Beed district, was pursuing a course in agri-business management at the college.

Giving details about the incident, the police said Chavan had finished his dinner and went to fetch water from the cooler at the college mess when he suffered a severe electric shock.

A senior official of the Shivajinagar police station said, "Chavan passed away at 1 pm on Tuesday. The cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination."

Following his death, other students held a protest inside the college on Wednesday, where they alleged that they had repeatedly raised concerns about electrical faults in the mess, but their complaints were ignored.
