New Delhi, March 25 A student from Delhi University and another from Jawaharlal Nehru University have claimed that they have filed complaints at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station against the JNU Vice-Chancellor, alleging that she made remarks directed against the Dalit community in February this year.
No immediate response was available from the JNU administration and the police.
Rovin Singh from DU, in his complaint dated March 22 to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Vasant Kunj (North) police station, identified himself as a Scheduled Caste student and said that the VC's comments had left him "deeply shocked, distressed, and aggrieved".
Seeking legal action, the student urged the police to register an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. He also sought protection for Dalit and other marginalized students on campus and called for a fair and expeditious investigation.
The second complaint was filed by a JNU student (who wishes to remain anonymous) on March 23.
"Her statements against the Dalit community amount to caste discrimination and have put me in danger of being discriminated against for belonging to the Dalit community," the student alleged and sought action under the SC/ST Act.
