Betul (MP), February 28 A 35-year-old female inmate of the district jail in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, attempted suicide on Saturday by swallowing bangle pieces, after which she was immediately taken to Bhopal for advanced medical care, an official said.
Poonam had been in jail since December 17 of last year, accused of murdering her husband, Raju Uike, Yogesh Sharma, the jail superintendent, told reporters.
According to police, around 10:30 am, she swallowed pieces of her bangles with the intention of ending her life.
She was first taken to the Betul district hospital, where doctors diagnosed her condition as serious, after which it was decided to rush her to a facility in Bhopal, police said.
Senior officials were informed, and an investigation into the incident has begun, Sharma added.
