Beed, March 11 A 21-year-old man is alleged to have committed suicide in the Beed district of Maharashtra after being scolded by his parents for neglecting household duties, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Sangvi (Patan) in the Ashti tehsil.

Police said that the man, Viraj Haridas Bhagat, was reportedly scolded by his parents for not helping with household chores. He then went to his family's agricultural field and hanged himself from a mango tree, they said.

The incident came to light when his sister, who had gone to the field, noticed him hanging from the tree.

The body has been sent to the Primary Health Centre at Dhamangaon for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway, an official said.
