
Sultanpur (UP), March 29 A police inspector stationed at the Akhandnagar police station here sustained a gunshot wound on Sunday, an official said.
Arun Kumar Dwivedi was immediately taken to the Government Medical College in Sultanpur. However, due to the critical nature of his condition, doctors subsequently referred him to the Trauma Centre in Lucknow.
Senior police officials have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Superintendent of Police Charu Nigam said that the incident occurred around 6 pm. Initial evidence suggests that the gunshot may have been accidental.
The inspector sustained a gunshot wound below his right shoulder, police said.
At the time of the incident, the inspector's personal licensed revolver was found at the scene, along with visible bloodstains. The room was found to be locked from the inside.
All aspects of the case are currently being thoroughly examined, she said.
