April 09, New Delhi – India is promoting homeopathy as a comprehensive, accessible, and policy-driven healthcare system, combining traditional knowledge with scientific advancements.
World Homoeopathy Day, observed annually on April 10, commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. The theme for 2026 is "Homoeopathy for Sustainable Health."
India has one of the largest homeopathy workforces in the world, with approximately 3.45 lakh registered doctors, 8,593 dispensaries, 277 educational institutions, and 34 research centers supporting the system.
Homeopathy was first introduced in India around 1810, when German missionaries began distributing the medicines. Over the years, it has become widely practiced throughout the country.
The system is also increasingly being integrated into public health services, including its role in epidemic response, further strengthening its contribution to India's healthcare framework.
