New Delhi, February 25 The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the trial in the money laundering case registered against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate in response to Soren's plea, in which he sought to have the case quashed.
In his plea before the top court, Soren also challenged the repeated summons issued to him by the ED.
Soren has challenged the recent decision of the Jharkhand High Court, which refused to quash the case against him.
On January 15, the high court refused to quash the cognizance taken against Soren by a special court comprising of MPs and MLAs in a complaint filed by the ED, dealing a setback to the JMM leader.
The ED had filed a complaint against Soren for not appearing before them despite the summons issued by them in connection with his alleged involvement in a land scam.
