Surat Temple Deaths: Young Women Found Unconscious, Suicide Search Revealed.webp

Surat, March 7 Two women in the 18-20 age group were found dead inside the bathroom of a temple in Surat city, Gujarat, with police stating on Saturday that they had recovered anaesthetic injections from the scene and that the two had used an AI-powered conversational tool, ChatGPT, to search for "how to commit suicide".

The two college students had been missing since Friday afternoon and were later found dead in the bathroom of the Swaminarayan Temple in Saniya village, Assistant Commissioner of Police NP Gohil said.

"Their relatives had informed the Dindoli police station after they went missing. Their phones were active, but they were not answering calls. After the location of the phones was traced, a police team went to Saniya village and searched the area. We found their scooter near the temple," he said.

CCTV footage showed the two walking towards the temple's bathroom, and the door of which was then broken down, the official said.

"The two were found unconscious. One was rushed to the civil hospital, and the other to the SMIMER Hospital. Doctors at both facilities declared them dead on arrival," he said.

A search of the bathroom revealed certain anaesthetic injections, while some photographs related to suicide were found in the phone gallery of one of the deceased, the official said.

The two, who were studying at different colleges in Surat, had been friends since school, police said.

An investigation is underway to determine why the two took this extreme step, police added.
