
Chennai, March 6 Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court here on Friday.
In a simple ceremony held at the Lok Bhavan, Governor R N Ravi administered the oath of office to Justice Dharmadhikari. He will be the 55th chief justice of the High Court. He was previously a judge of the Kerala High Court before his appointment to the Madras High Court.
Chief Secretary N Muruganandam read out the appointment warrant, which was handed over to the chief justice-designate before he was administered the oath of office.
Justice Dharmadhikari was appointed as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 7, 2016, and as a permanent judge on March 17, 2018.
Born on July 8, 1966, in Raipur, he obtained his Bachelor's degree in commerce and law from Nagpur University.
He enrolled as an advocate in the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur in 1992, and he was the standing counsel for the Union government from 2000 to 2015.
Justice Dharmadhikari's predecessor, Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, retired on March 5, 2026, having reached the age of 62. He had been the chief justice since July 21, 2025.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem, followed by the national and Tamil anthems.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Natural Resources, S Regupathy, and other senior officials, also participated in the function.
