March 13, New Delhi – Six people were killed after a man set himself on fire on a bus in Kerzers, about 20 kilometers west of Bern, officials said.

Raphael Bourquin, the public prosecutor of the Fribourg canton, said the 65-year-old Swiss man boarded the bus with two bags before standing up, dousing himself with gasoline and setting himself alight.

All the victims have been formally identified. They include the 63-year-old bus driver of Portuguese origin, and four Swiss residents – two women aged 25 and 39, and two men aged 16 and 29.

Five other people were injured. Three were taken to the hospital, including two in serious condition, while the other two received treatment at the scene. The injured include two Swiss men aged 34 and 61, two Swiss women aged 27 and 56, and a 32-year-old man from Kosovo.

Emergency services responded immediately to contain the fire and assist the victims.
