Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated today that synthetic content should not be generated without the consent of the person whose face, voice, or personality has been used to create the content. He made these remarks while addressing a conclave in New Delhi this morning. Mr. Vaishnaw said that platforms must take responsibility for the content that is hosted by them. He added that the online safety of citizens and children is a responsibility of the platforms.

Mr. Vaishnaw said that the time has come for platforms to take proactive action against cyber fraud and cybercrime. He noted that the government has intensely interacted with the platforms in the recent past and have categorically told them to ensure that all necessary steps are undertaken to safeguard citizens online. The Minister said that the platforms must ensure that they are not used for propagating illegal acts or committing crimes.

The Minister urged the platforms to rethink their revenue sharing policies because society is having concern regarding that. He added, the platform must also share revenue in a fair way with the people who are creating content.
