T20 World Cup Final: Key to New Zealand's Success - Managing Bumrah.webp

In the Men’s T20 World Cup final, New Zealand’s approach to Jasprit Bumrah, their key fast bowler, will depend on the game situation rather than a fixed strategy, according to former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull.

Doull emphasized that the openers, Finn Allen and Tim Seifert, will need to adapt their approach based on the specific circumstances of each over. If New Zealand gains an early advantage, Bumrah might bowl longer spells. If they are behind, Bumrah might be brought on earlier to try and change the momentum.

Doull highlighted that Bumrah's effectiveness against India's other pacers, including Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya, will be crucial in determining the outcome of the match.

"The key will be how New Zealand handles Bumrah. If they can contain him in the first few overs, it will make things easier for their other bowlers," Doull explained.

Allen's explosive hitting against South Africa in the semi-final, where he scored a century, showcased his potential. Doull believes that Allen's ability to target Pandya, while being cautious against Arshdeep, will be vital.

Doull also pointed out that New Zealand will need to be mindful of Allen and Seifert's potential to score quickly. If the openers can put on a strong partnership, it will put pressure on India's middle order.

He also acknowledged that India will be aware of the threat posed by Allen and Seifert, especially after the pair's impressive performance against Bumrah in the group stage.

Doull concluded by emphasizing the importance of New Zealand's middle order, particularly Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman, stepping up if the top order falters.
