
Colombo, February 25 Rachin Ravindra took 4/27 as New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 61 runs in their Group 2 Super Eights match of the T20 World Cup here on Wednesday.
With this win, New Zealand moved closer to the semi-finals. Sri Lanka, however, were eliminated, although they still have one match remaining.
Chasing 169, Sri Lanka had a poor start, scoring only 20/2 in the powerplay and failed to build any momentum.
Ravindra then dismissed the fragile Sri Lankan middle order, helping the Kiwis restrict the hosts to a paltry 107/8.
Earlier, captain Mitchell Santner (47) and Cole McConchie (31 not out) led New Zealand's recovery after a middle-order collapse, as the Kiwis posted 168/7.
New Zealand suffered a batting collapse, slipping from 75/2 to 84/6 during which they also lost three wickets without adding a run.
