T20 World Cup Performance Leads to Potential Financial Penalties for Pakistan Players.webp

Karachi, March 2 The country's cricket board has decided to impose financial penalties on the players for their disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, following Pakistan's early elimination from the tournament. Some sources say that the amount could be as high as PKR 5 million (approximately USD 18,000) per player.

This decision comes after a series of poor results in major tournaments.

A reliable source said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering appropriate action in the wake of the team's exit from the Super Eight stage of the event, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

"No final decision has been taken yet. However, it is being considered to financially penalize the players," he confirmed to

However, other sources in the PCB claim that the board will impose a fine of PKR 5 million each on the players who returned home on Sunday night following their disappointing performance.

Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals and lost to strong teams like India and England, while their Super Eight match against New Zealand was washed out due to rain.

They won their final Super Eight game against Sri Lanka but were unable to qualify for the semi-finals.

According to the source, the performance of the players has not only upset the PCB but also influential figures in the government.

"The feeling is that enough is enough, and these players, despite so much support, let down the nation in major events," the source added.

The Pakistan players also returned home quietly in small groups from Sri Lanka, with captain Salman Ali Agha and star batter Babar Azam, along with some other players, arriving in Lahore last night.

Players who have central contracts receive monthly retainers, match fees, and win bonuses, as well as shares in the Board's team sponsorship deals.
