
Tadipatri (Andhra Pradesh), March 27 Andhra Pradesh Police opened fire on a man accused of kidnapping and murder on Friday after he allegedly attacked police in an attempt to escape, officials said.
The man, identified as Sarvesh Kumar, is alleged to have strangled and beaten a boy to death in Kundanakota village in the Yadiki mandal of Anantapur district on Thursday.
"Tadipatri Police opened fire on the accused in the kidnapping and murder case (Kumar) in an attempt to arrest him... Police chased and arrested him as he was attempting to flee," said an official press release.
While the police were observing the crime scene, Kumar attacked them with an empty beer bottle, prompting Peddavaduguru inspector Rama Subbaiah to fire four rounds in self-defense, the release said.
Kumar was subdued after being hit by bullets, while Subbaiah and Constable Venkatesh were injured in the attack by the accused.
All three are currently receiving treatment at the Tadipatri hospital, the press release added.
