Tamil Nadu Assembly Election: DMK's Strategy and Alliance Seat Distribution

Tamil Nadu Assembly Election: DMK's Strategy and Alliance Seat Distribution.webp

Chennai, March 25 DMK President and Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Wednesday that the party's 'Rising Sun' symbol would be contested in 175 out of the state's total 234 constituencies.

Writing to party members, Stalin said that over the past five years, the Dravidian model government has elevated the state's development to a national level by "correcting the degradation" in all sectors in Tamil Nadu due to 10 years of the atrocious AIADMK rule.

The contribution of ideologically aligned allies—who supported this great effort and achievement—is extremely important, he said.

Respecting and acknowledging this, the seat-sharing negotiations were conducted democratically on behalf of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), he said.

He has completed the allocation of seats for allies and also conducted interviews with aspirants seeking party tickets.

Excluding constituencies where alliance parties will contest under their own symbols, the 'Rising Sun' symbol will be contested in 175 constituencies for the 2026 Legislative Assembly election—featuring a combination of DMK candidates and alliance candidates contesting under the DMK symbol.

"All 234 constituencies are ours, and the symbols of our alliance partners are also ours; let us win together," the CM said.

On March 25, DMK allotted one seat each to SDPI, Mukkulathor Pulipadai Katchi (both parties contesting in the 'Rising Sun' symbol), and Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi.

The Congress party has been allotted 28 seats, DMDK 10, VCK 8, and 5 each to CPI and the CPI(M). MDMK has been earmarked 4 and 2 each to the IUML, the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi, and the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi.

KMDK and MMK are set to contest polls under the DMK's symbol. MDMK will contest in the 'Rising Sun' symbol in 3 out of the 4 seats it has been given by the DMK.

The AIADMK's Two-Leaves symbol will be contested in 169 out of the 234 constituencies.
