Chennai, March 15 Seat-sharing talks within the NDA in Tamil Nadu for the April 23 Assembly elections will take place soon, said AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami, whose party leads the bloc, here on Sunday.
There are still 15 days left for filing nominations as per the schedule given by the Election Commission, he said after attending an Iftar function.
Speaking to reporters here, he said, "Seat-sharing talks for the AIADMK-led NDA will be conducted soon. Once they are completed, we will invite the media and inform them."
"There are still 15 days left, right? When do nominations start? According to the EC schedule, nominations will begin on March 30. So, we have time. The seat-sharing discussions will be conducted in a way that the candidates we nominate will emerge victorious," he added.
The NDA constituents in Tamil Nadu include the AIADMK, BJP, AMMK, and PMK.
Responding to a query about Chief Minister M K Stalin's comments that minorities are being targeted in BJP-ruled states, Palaniswami said, "He used to make such remarks only during the election season. What has this DMK government done for the welfare of the minorities?"
The Leader of the Opposition recalled various welfare schemes for minority communities that were implemented during the AIADMK rule.
"The AIADMK government stood as a protector for the minorities. But today, there is no safety for the people of Tamil Nadu as a whole," he claimed.
Earlier in his address at the function, Palaniswami said, "History will show that the rule of AIADMK founder and late Chief Minister M G Ramachandran, and that of J Jayalalithaa, and the regime under my leadership, following the path laid by them, were the golden age for the minorities."
During the AIADMK regime, his government implemented numerous welfare schemes for the Muslim community, Palaniswami said.
"The AIADMK government allocated funds without any hindrance for taking up the Hajj pilgrimage," he recalled.
With elections around the corner, Palaniswami said, "Tamil Nadu is eagerly waiting for the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance to come to power, and the people are ready to give a magnificent victory to the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance."
