Chennai, March 11 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safe evacuation of Tamil people stranded in West Asia and requested urgent intervention to address disruptions in LPG supply caused by the ongoing conflict in the region.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Stalin highlighted the dual impact of the West Asia war on the state's diaspora and its energy security.
"In light of the ongoing #WestAsiaWar, I have written to Hon'ble @PMOIndia regarding urgent issues affecting Tamil Nadu and our people abroad," the chief minister said in a post on X.
Regarding the safety of the Tamil diaspora, Stalin sought the Union Government's assistance in facilitating transit visas, coordinated evacuation efforts, and the operation of additional flights to ensure the safe return of those stranded in the conflict zone.
He also flagged a burgeoning energy crisis, urging the Centre to take immediate steps to maintain an uninterrupted supply of LPG for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers in Tamil Nadu, which has been hit by supply chain disruptions.
Further, Stalin reached out to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri concerning the state's power requirements ahead of the summer months.
"Requested revisiting the methodology under the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026 to ensure adequate gas availability to meet the upcoming summer peak power demand," the Chief Minister stated.
Stalin said DMK Members of Parliament would personally hand over the letters to the respective Union Ministers in New Delhi.
"We look forward to swift action from the Government of India," he added.
