
Chennai, March 18 Actor-politician Vijay and senior leaders in the TVK, making their maiden electoral debut in the April 23 Assembly election, will challenge the ruling DMK in Chennai constituencies, with Vijay himself likely to contest from Perambur, the party has said.
According to a source in the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Wednesday, the party would go it alone in the upcoming election and challenge both the DMK and the NDA led by the AIADMK.
He said the party leaders were keen on seeking their electoral fortunes from Chennai, which is considered the stronghold of the DMK.
The ruling DMK had won all 16 Assembly constituencies in the city during the 2021 Assembly election, and the city has long been represented by DMK members.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin represents the Kolathur constituency, while his deputy and son Udhayanidhi was elected from the Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P K Sekar Babu represents the Harbour constituency, and Health Minister Ma Subramanian was elected from Saidapet, to name some of the prominent personalities who were elected from the city's constituencies.
The TVK has favoured Vijay to contest from Perambur, while the fledgling party's general secretaries Bussy N Anand and Aadhav Arjuna are likely to contest from T Nagar and Villivakkam constituencies, respectively.
Former AIADMK leader J C D Prabhakar, who joined the TVK, is likely to be fielded from Thousands Lights.
The party is expected to announce the official list of candidates soon.
