Hyderabad, February 22 Top Maoist commander Thippiri Tirupati alias Devji, a native of Telangana, has surrendered to the state police, local media reports claimed on Sunday.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the Telangana Police regarding Devji and other members of the banned outfit's surrender.

The reports further claimed that another senior Maoist leader, Malla Raji Reddy, along with several cadres, has also surrendered.

Earlier, the Telangana Police had described Devji, who hails from the Jagtial district of Telangana, as a key strategist.

Devji, who is in his 60s, is believed to have taken over as the General Secretary of the CPI (Maoist) following the death of Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju in May 2025, who previously held the position.

According to reports, Devji, who carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head, created the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) and went on to become a key member of the CPI (Maoist)'s Central Committee and a member of the Maoist party's politburo.

In recent times, many members of the banned outfit have abandoned the movement and surrendered.

On February 15, Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B Shivadhar Reddy appealed to all underground CPI (Maoist) leaders and cadres, including approximately 15 remaining cadres from Telangana, to give up arms.

He stated that those who choose to join the mainstream will be provided with immediate assistance and benefits under the state government's "Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme".
