Hyderabad, March 6 Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said on Friday that the state government has been paying an average of Rs 1,000 crore per month in retirement benefits to retired employees.
Addressing a meeting of the Telangana Madiga Employees Coordination Committee, Reddy also said that Telangana serves as a role model for the rest of the country in implementing sub-categorization for Scheduled Castes.
"About 1,000 government employees retire every month. If one employee retires, the government incurs an expenditure of Rs 1 crore payable to the retired employee. Therefore, approximately Rs 1,000 crore should be paid as retirement benefits to retired employees," he said.
Requesting government employees to be more vigilant in collecting taxes, Reddy said that tax evaders should be dealt with strictly.
He further stated that the state's financial situation is very limited, and there is no land available for the government to distribute to the weaker sections.
"There is no money or land available with the government. In order to uplift this community (Scheduled Castes) in society, education is essential. Therefore, we ensured that education reaches the doorsteps of villages and tribal settlements," Reddy said.
However, he said that there is a need to provide quality education to the people, and the government is taking steps in that direction.
Reddy said that the state government will protect the rights of Madiga employees.
