
Hyderabad, April 4 Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday favored taking measures to prevent any political activities within the premises of temples.
He held a meeting with Endowments Minister Konda Surekha and officials to discuss the preparation of a master plan for the development of the Goddess Saraswathi temple at Basara in the Nirmal district.
He said that rules should be made to prevent any political activities in the premises of all temples, similar to the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala, as stated in an official release.
Reddy, who will lay the foundation stone for the development works at the Basara temple on April 6, said that the works should be carried out in accordance with the 'shastras'. The temple development project will cost Rs 225 crore.
He also instructed the officials to ensure that the temple would have wide roads to accommodate the future influx of devotees, and that only electric vehicles (EVs) would be used within the temple premises.
Reddy directed that strict rules should be implemented to ensure the sanctity of the temple, the release added.
