Bengaluru, March 29 Nearly 60 people fell ill after consuming Ram Navami 'prasad' (consecrated offering) in Bengaluru Rural district, officials said on Sunday.

According to officials, about 400 people had consumed the Prasad on Saturday, and many of them started complaining of stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea-like symptoms.

They were rushed to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday.

"Sixty people developed illness in the early hours of Sunday. After treatment, all of them are out of danger," Bengaluru Rural District Health Officer (DHO) Lakka Krishna Reddy told reporters in Devanahalli.

About 46 people were admitted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Devanahalli, while the remaining were transferred to a private hospital.

Senior health officials rushed to the scene upon receiving the information and collected the temple 'prasad' for testing in the Forensic Science Laboratory to identify the actual cause of the incident.
