Chennai, March 3 Several temples across Tamil Nadu have restricted the hours of worship on Tuesday due to the total lunar eclipse.

The Marundeeswar temple in Chennai, the Sri Meenakshi Sundareshwar temple in Madurai, the Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple in Srirangam, and the Subramaniaswamy temple at Marudhamalai hills in Coimbatore were among the temples that closed their doors as per the custom observed during this celestial event.

The TTD temple in T Nagar, here, also remained closed for the eclipse.

The temples will reopen for worship after the necessary rituals are performed, an official said.

The first total lunar eclipse of the year will be visible in Chennai and Kanyakumari for up to 31 minutes from 6:17 pm, according to the India Meteorological Department.
