Thane, March 24 Police have registered a case against a 58-year-old man for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Thane district, Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused is alleged to have committed the crime between December 2023 and February of this year, after luring the victim to his house in Nizampura, Bhiwandi, under some pretext, according to an official from the Bhoiwada police station.
Based on a complaint by the victim's family, the police registered a case against the accused on Sunday under sections 64 (rape) and 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.
The reason for the delay in the victim's family filing the complaint was not specified.
