Thane, March 25 The Thane Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra presented its budget for the financial year 2026-27 on Wednesday, proposing a total expenditure of Rs 116.93 crore, with a focus on strengthening roads and launching various women-centric schemes.

Speaking to reporters, Thane ZP CEO Ranjit Yadav said that the Women and Child Welfare Department has been allocated Rs 4.89 crore, which will cover various empowerment schemes, including computer education for girls and a bicycle distribution programme.

The budget also earmarks Rs 25 lakh for the 'pink room' initiative in the Zilla Parishad schools.

"These 'pink room' facilities, along with the provision of sanitary napkins, are designed to ensure that girl students in rural areas have access to a safe, private, and hygienic space, thereby reducing dropout rates and promoting menstrual health," he said.

The construction department has been given the highest allocation of Rs 19.87 crore to strengthen rural roads and administrative buildings.

"This budget is not just a document of fund allocation but a resolution to make every citizen of rural Thane capable, safe, and self-reliant," the CEO said.
