Los Angeles, March 11 Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures has brought director James Wan on board to helm a reimagining of the hit South Korean crime thriller "The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil".

The film was released in 2019 after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received critical acclaim.

Starring popular South Korean actor Don Lee in the lead, the film follows an unlikely alliance between a gangster and a police officer who join forces to track down a serial killer.

Lee, who has also appeared in blockbusters such as "Train to Busan", "Unstoppable", "The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos" as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie "Eternals", is also attached to the project, according to Variety.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland, known for "Mystic River" and "L.A. Confidential", penned the original draft and is attached as an executive producer on the reimagining.

The screenplay for the new version is being written by Shay Hatten, known for "Resident Evil".

Wan will produce the film through his banner Atomic Monster, alongside Michael Clear.

Lee is producing via Big Punch Global, with Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller producing via Balboa Productions. Chris Lee of B&C Group and BA Entertainment CEO Jang Won-seok round out the producing team.

Wan, one of Hollywood's most successful directors, is best known for launching the "Conjuring", "Insidious" and "Saw" franchises. He also directed "Furious 7" and "Aquaman", each earning over USD 1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Wan has also served as a producer on "M3GAN" and the "Mortal Kombat" reboot.
