
The Shopian police in Jammu & Kashmir have successfully busted a fake currency circulation racket and recovered counterfeit notes worth ₹79,000, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
Shopian, March 13: The Shopian police in Jammu & Kashmir have successfully busted a fake currency circulation racket and recovered counterfeit notes worth ₹79,000, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
The Shopian Police Station received a complaint from a local shopkeeper, stating that an individual had used counterfeit notes while purchasing goods from his shop. Accordingly, a Case FIR No. 33/2026 was registered at the Shopian Police Station under relevant sections of law, and an investigation was initiated.
Promptly acting on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation. During the course of the investigation, the police recovered counterfeit notes amounting to ₹79,000 from the possession of the accused, identified as Mohd Syed Wani, son of Gh Mohiuddin Wani, resident of Batpora Shopian; Mohd Maqbool Naikoo, son of Habibullah Naikoo, resident of Bungam Shopian, and Peerzada Altaf, son of Peerzada Gh Mohd, resident of Tukroo Babnad (BDO Zainapora).
All the accused have been formally arrested, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the counterfeit currency and identify other individuals involved in the circulation network.
