Los Angeles, April 2 Hollywood veteran Dennis Quaid is set to star in an upcoming series set in the world of high-speed stock car racing, NASCAR.

Titled "Thunder Roads," the show is being produced in partnership between American network AMC and NASCAR, the auto racing sanctioning and operating company, reported Deadline.

The series will be written by John Fusco, known for his work on shows "Young Guns" and "The Highwayman," while Taylor Elmore will serve as the showrunner.

"Thunder Roads" is described as a "multi-generational saga of the Whitlock family, whose legacy in stock car racing is as deep as the family's ties to the southern hill country that shaped them," according to the official tagline.

Quaid, the star of films such as "The Parent Trap," "The Rookie," "The Day After Tomorrow," "Flight of the Phoenix," and "Vantage Point," will portray Duanne Whitlock, also known as "The Wrecking Ball," a legendary NASCAR figure "who built a racing empire from a legacy of moonshine runs and dirt tracks and refuses to let it die."

According to the outlet, the story is about a working-class dynasty on the brink of extinction – and the aging king fighting to hold onto his throne.

Cliff Roberts, who executive produced the Netflix series "Untamed," and Mark L. Smith, the co-creator of "Untamed," will executive produce "Thunder Roads" together.
