Agartala, April 10 Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma stated on Friday that his party will win the April 12 elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) by securing 24 out of the 28 seats.
Currently, the TMP is running the tribal council, while the BJP is in the opposition, despite both parties sharing power at the state level.
Addressing an election rally in Gandatwisa, Dhalai district, Debbarma appealed to the people not to vote for the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of the BJP-led coalition government in the northeastern state.
"It is certain that the IPFT will not win the elections scheduled for April 12. If you vote for the IPFT, it will benefit the BJP. I urge you not to vote for the IPFT, but instead support the TMP, which has been fighting for your rights," he said.
Encouraging the Tiprasa tribes to unite, Debbarma said that no force could prevent the TMP from winning if the tribal people remain united in the elections.
Alleging that Chief Minister Manik Saha has no "love and respect for the Tiprasa people", Debbarma said that he (CM) is fighting for the party, while the TMP is fighting for the cause of the tribal people.
"I will receive a reply on April 17 (the day of counting)," Debbarma said.
