Dubai, March 11 Swashbuckling batsman Ishan Kishan capitalized on his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup, moving up to a career-high second position, trailing top-ranked Abhishek Sharma by just four points in the latest ICC list for T20I batters, published on Wednesday.
Abhishek maintained his lead after his quick-fire half-century against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final, while his fellow left-handed batsman, Ishan Kishan, is now his closest rival after moving up to second overall following his 317 runs in the tournament.
Kishan (871 points) achieved a new career-high rating, trailing Abhishek (875 points) by just four rating points. New Zealander Tim Seifert (moving up four places to sixth) and England's Jacob Bethell (moving up 17 places to 16th) also achieved their career-best scores during the T20 World Cup.
However, there was a change in the ranking list for T20I bowlers, with Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy losing the top position to Afghan spinner Rashid Khan after the conclusion of the global event.
Chakravarthy (740 points), whose mystery was solved by many of the top global batters, is now second to Rashid (753), whose team, Afghanistan, exited the tournament in the group stage.
Chakravarthy dropped to second as Rashid claimed the No.1 ranking despite not playing any matches in the last week. Adil Rashid (moving up one place to fourth), Jasprit Bumrah (moving up one place to sixth) and Axar Patel (moving up six places to 17th) were also rewarded for their decent performances during the T20 World Cup with significant gains.
The race for the top positions in the T20I all-rounders category also remained tight, with Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza and Indian star Hardik Pandya achieving new career-high ratings this week while occupying the top two positions in the category. Shivam Dube, who was ninth, has dropped two places to be 11th in the latest list.
